# FanXue vs Vela Reader

The clearest difference is monetization model: Vela Reader at freemium against FanXue's subscription. FanXue's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 weeks) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FanXue sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $20.00 per month and Vela Reader sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for FanXue against 5.0 for Vela Reader. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 1 respectively.

FanXue ships an update every 4 days, Vela Reader every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
