# Sidequest vs Unterra

The clearest difference is monetization model: Sidequest at free against Unterra's freemium. Sidequest also leads on ratings volume (176 vs 3) and chart position (#194 vs unranked). Unterra's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 weeks). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Sidequest sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Unterra sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $6.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for Sidequest against 4.3 for Unterra. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sidequest has 176 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 18% of Sidequest's written reviews are positive against 20% of Unterra's.

Sidequest ships an update every 2 weeks, Unterra every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
