# Orchid Journal vs Spool

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Orchid Journal at none against Spool's 3. Orchid Journal also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 18.2). Spool's advantage is ratings volume (9 vs 1) and device support. On price there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spool sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Orchid Journal asks for nothing beyond the download.

Orchid Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spool has 9 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
