# BrainMaxx vs Unhook

The clearest difference is monetization model: BrainMaxx at free with in-app purchases against Unhook's subscription. BrainMaxx also leads on ratings volume (190 vs 4). Unhook's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BrainMaxx sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Unhook sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Unhook holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BrainMaxx has 190 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 92% of BrainMaxx's written reviews are positive against 100% of Unhook's.

BrainMaxx ships an update weekly, Unhook every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
