# Rock Nerd vs Rock Identifier

The clearest difference is rating: Rock Nerd at 4.7 against Rock Identifier's 4.3. Rock Nerd also leads on device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 18.0). Rock Identifier's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 50%) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 9 days). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Rock Nerd sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Rock Identifier sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Rock Nerd holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 7 and 31 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Rock Nerd's written reviews are positive against 67% of Rock Identifier's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Rock Nerd ships an update every 9 days, Rock Identifier every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
