# GreatFireVPN vs File Transfer

The clearest difference is ads: GreatFireVPN at none against File Transfer's shown. File Transfer's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 5 weeks). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GreatFireVPN sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and File Transfer sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.00 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

GreatFireVPN ships an update every 5 weeks, File Transfer every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
