# SecondBrain vs Median

The clearest difference is monetization model: SecondBrain at free with in-app purchases against Median's subscription. SecondBrain also leads on ratings volume (6 vs 1) and device support (3 vs 1). Median's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SecondBrain sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month and Median sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for SecondBrain against 5.0 for Median. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SecondBrain has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

SecondBrain ships an update every 3 days, Median every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
