# Scroll vs Written

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Written at none against Scroll's 2. Written also leads on ratings volume (10 vs 1). Scroll's advantage is iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scroll sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Written asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Scroll against 5.0 for Written. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Written has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Scroll ships an update weekly, Written every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
