ShootCal is the calendar app made by a photographer for professional photographers and content creators. Plan portraits, weddings, minis, and real estate shoots around the light that makes them great, and let clients book you online. Your appointments, clients, and tasks are saved in ShootCal, with optional Google or Microsoft calendar sync. Features: Booking, website availability, e-sign contracts, galleries, AI calendar import, golden hour, session types, deposits, reminders, reports, web access, Apple Watch, tides and weather. Online Booking on Your Own Website Embed the live availability calendar on your own site (Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, anywhere) as a clean month grid, or share your booking page link. Clients see open days (never names or details), pick a time or send their date, and the request lands in the app. Accept and it is booked, with the client saved. Instant booking and contact-first modes are available per session type, and the whole page is styled to blend with your website. Contracts Your Clients E-Sign Create a wedding, family, or custom agreement from a built-in template, prefilled with the client, date, and package. Share the signing link and track it from draft to signed. Golden Hour on Autopilot Set a session to start before sunset or after sunrise and ShootCal schedules it automatically, with sun times right on the calendar. Studio-hours and fixed-time modes cover indoor work. AI Calendar Import Scan your calendar and build your client list automatically, with each client matched to a session type and their booking history. You review everything before it is saved. Custom Session Types Reusable presets for families, seniors, minis, engagements, weddings, real estate, and more. Each has its own timing, booking rules, price, and cover photo on your booking page. Deposit Tracking + Client Emails Green paid / red unpaid right on the calendar. Optional confirmation emails when a deposit is received, and automatic reminders before sessions. Clients in ShootCal Keep names, emails, and booking history in ShootCal, with the same saved client list in the apps and on the web. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: ShootCal at 5.0 against Pulse Calendar's 4.1. ShootCal also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 75%) and monetization model (free vs freemium). Pulse Calendar's advantage is ratings volume (8 vs 1) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 26.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Pulse Calendar sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and ShootCal sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
ShootCal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pulse Calendar has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 75% of Pulse Calendar's written reviews are positive against 100% of ShootCal's.
Pulse Calendar ships an update every 4 days, ShootCal every 3 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
