# PDF Tools vs Scanner App

The clearest difference is rating: PDF Tools at 5.0 against Scanner App's 4.5. Scanner App's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 days vs fortnightly). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PDF Tools sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Scanner App sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PDF Tools holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1 and 2 respectively.

PDF Tools ships an update fortnightly, Scanner App every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
