# APOD Explorer vs Planet Pointer

The clearest difference is update cadence: Planet Pointer at every 4 days against APOD Explorer's every 6 weeks. Planet Pointer also leads on iOS requirement (16.4 vs 26.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. APOD Explorer sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Planet Pointer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

APOD Explorer ships an update every 6 weeks, Planet Pointer every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
