# OpenVox Reader vs PDF Scanner

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: PDF Scanner at none against OpenVox Reader's 1. PDF Scanner also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and ratings volume (9 vs 3). OpenVox Reader's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 80%). On price, update cadence, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. OpenVox Reader sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. PDF Scanner asks for nothing beyond the download.

PDF Scanner holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 9 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of OpenVox Reader's written reviews are positive against 80% of PDF Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

OpenVox Reader ships an update every 6 days, PDF Scanner every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and September 30, 2026 respectively.
