# Halftone vs NicoComic

The clearest difference is monetization model: NicoComic at free against Halftone's freemium. Halftone's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks) and ratings volume (7 vs 1). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Halftone sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month and NicoComic sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Halftone against 5.0 for NicoComic. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Halftone has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Halftone ships an update weekly, NicoComic every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
