# Awesomap vs Maps for OSM

The clearest difference is monetization model: Maps for OSM at free against Awesomap's paid. Maps for OSM also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 63 months) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Awesomap's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 75%) and ratings volume (374 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Maps for OSM holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Awesomap has 374 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Awesomap's written reviews are positive against 75% of Maps for OSM's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Awesomap ships an update every 63 months, Maps for OSM every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
