PianoStart

Learn piano, one note at a time. PianoStart helps beginners find the keys and play simple melodies on iPhone and iPad. Start with short key exercises and move on to well-known songs such as Ode to Joy, Twinkle, Twinkle and the opening of Für Elise. PRACTISE AT YOUR OWN PACE Follow the score and the highlighted key. In practice mode the song waits for the right note, so you can take the time you need. A mistake counter helps you keep track of your playing. PLAY ON YOUR OWN PIANO Use the microphone with an acoustic piano or a digital keyboard. Choose your instrument type and microphone sensitivity in Settings. Note recognition is designed for one note at a time and is affected by volume, background noise and placement. You can also practise on the app's on-screen keys without the microphone. PLAY ALONG WITH THE MELODY After completing a song exercise you can play along with the melody, with a count-in, adjustable tempo and pause. Microphone mistake counting during playback requires headphones, so the app doesn't listen to its own melody. Skipped notes are not counted as mistakes. CLEAR GUIDANCE • Notes with note names and length markings • Highlighted piano keys • Course progress saved on your device • Designed for iPhone and iPad • 13 languages No account required. Piano sound is analysed on the device and note recognition does not store any recordings. PianoStart contains ads from Google AdMob. Cléa

Learn piano at your own pace, with Clea as your teacher. Clea was born from a simple conviction: anyone who wants to learn piano but can't afford lessons should be able to learn at least the basics. This project matters to me personally - so Clea is, and will stay, 100% free. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no exceptions. How it works: a virtual teacher (choose Clea or Cledo) guides you step by step, out loud, on an interactive keyboard: the 7 notes, right- and left-hand fingering, all 12 major scales and all 12 minor scales, pentatonic scales, chords, and ear-training exercises. Two notations: show notes in solfege (Do Re Mi...) or in letter notation (C D E...) - the teacher's voice always stays in solfege. Real piano (optional): if you have a real piano or keyboard nearby, turn on the microphone: Clea recognises the notes you play, in real time, entirely on your phone (nothing is ever sent or recorded). Available in French and English. Built for beginners, kids and adults alike - a playful "Junior" mode and a more direct "Teen & Adult" mode. No personal data, no ads, no account required. Just learning piano, for free.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Cléa at none against PianoStart's shown. On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
