# The Talking Shell vs Duo

The clearest difference is rating: Duo at 4.6 against The Talking Shell's 2.8. Duo also leads on update cadence (every 6 days vs monthly) and ratings volume (183 vs 9). The Talking Shell's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (6.0 vs 13.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Talking Shell sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Duo sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Duo holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Duo has 183 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. The Talking Shell ships an update monthly, Duo every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
