# PCN Select vs Student News Source

The clearest difference is rating: Student News Source at 4.3 against PCN Select's 2.1. PCN Select's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (13% vs 0%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Student News Source holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 2.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PCN Select has 48 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 13% of PCN Select's written reviews are positive against 0% of Student News Source's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and September 26, 2026 respectively.
