# ContractorTools vs Home Renovation Estimator

The clearest difference is monetization model: Home Renovation Estimator at free against ContractorTools's free with in-app purchases. Home Renovation Estimator also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). ContractorTools's advantage is ratings volume (1.8K vs 1) and chart position (#197 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ContractorTools sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month and Home Renovation Estimator sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Home Renovation Estimator holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ContractorTools has 1.8K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

ContractorTools ships an update every 3 weeks, Home Renovation Estimator every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
