# FileMaster vs Zip Extractor

FileMaster and Zip Extractor both sit at 4.3 stars, but that hides the real split: 85% of FileMaster's written reviews are positive against 33% of Zip Extractor's. FileMaster also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 13.0). Zip Extractor's advantage is ratings volume (305 vs 60). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FileMaster sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.49 per 3 months and Zip Extractor sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $6.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for FileMaster against 4.4 for Zip Extractor. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Zip Extractor has 305 ratings behind it against 60, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 85% of FileMaster's written reviews are positive against 33% of Zip Extractor's.

FileMaster ships an update fortnightly, Zip Extractor every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
