# Backpacker™ vs SDC Ozword

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SDC Ozword at none against Backpacker™'s 11. SDC Ozword also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Backpacker™'s advantage is ratings volume (5.4K vs 4) and review sentiment (70% vs 50%). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backpacker™ sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per 7 days. SDC Ozword asks for nothing beyond the download.

SDC Ozword holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backpacker™ has 5.4K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of Backpacker™'s written reviews are positive against 50% of SDC Ozword's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Backpacker™ ships an update every 6 weeks, SDC Ozword monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
