# ButterflyMX vs Urbanmount

ButterflyMX and Urbanmount both sit at 4.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Urbanmount's written reviews are positive against 50% of ButterflyMX's. Urbanmount also leads on update cadence (weekly vs fortnightly). ButterflyMX's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for ButterflyMX against 5.0 for Urbanmount. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ButterflyMX has 113K ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 50% of ButterflyMX's written reviews are positive against 100% of Urbanmount's.

ButterflyMX ships an update fortnightly, Urbanmount weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
