# ButterflyMX vs Checkmate

ButterflyMX and Checkmate both sit at 4.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Checkmate's written reviews are positive against 50% of ButterflyMX's. ButterflyMX's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Checkmate sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. ButterflyMX asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for ButterflyMX against 5.0 for Checkmate.
