# Emphasis vs Pomodoro Focus Timer

The clearest difference is monetization model: Pomodoro Focus Timer at free against Emphasis's free with in-app purchases. Pomodoro Focus Timer also leads on rating (4.9 vs 4.7) and device support (6 vs 4). Emphasis's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 294). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Emphasis sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per month and Pomodoro Focus Timer sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Pomodoro Focus Timer holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1.1K and 294 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 84% of Emphasis's written reviews are positive against 82% of Pomodoro Focus Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Emphasis ships an update fortnightly, Pomodoro Focus Timer monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and September 30, 2026 respectively.
