# EthioType vs Ge'ez

The clearest difference is rating: Ge'ez at 4.6 against EthioType's 4.0. Ge'ez also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1). EthioType's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 5 months) and iOS requirement (6.1 vs 15.1). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. EthioType sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Ge'ez asks for nothing beyond the download.

Ge'ez holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 78 and 30 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of EthioType's written reviews are positive against 50% of Ge'ez's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

EthioType ships an update weekly, Ge'ez every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
