# Text to Speech vs Read Text Aloud

The clearest difference is rating: Text to Speech at 4.5 against Read Text Aloud's 3.8. Text to Speech also leads on ratings volume (864 vs 6) and device support (3 vs 1). Read Text Aloud's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 79%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Text to Speech sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Read Text Aloud sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Text to Speech holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text to Speech has 864 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of Text to Speech's written reviews are positive against 100% of Read Text Aloud's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
