# instdown vs uDown

The clearest difference is monetization model: instdown at free with in-app purchases against uDown's subscription. instdown also leads on ratings volume (148K vs 257) and rating (4.7 vs 4.4). uDown's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (12.1 vs 15.0). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. instdown sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per year and uDown sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

instdown holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: instdown has 148K ratings behind it against 257, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 51% of instdown's written reviews are positive against 36% of uDown's.

instdown ships an update every 5 weeks, uDown every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
