# AES Crypt vs Simpleum Safe Encryption

The clearest difference is rating: Simpleum Safe Encryption at 3.8 against AES Crypt's 2.8. Simpleum Safe Encryption also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 9 months). AES Crypt's advantage is review sentiment (42% vs 20%) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.6). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. AES Crypt sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per year and Simpleum Safe Encryption sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Simpleum Safe Encryption holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 2.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 28 and 13 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 42% of AES Crypt's written reviews are positive against 20% of Simpleum Safe Encryption's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

AES Crypt ships an update every 9 months, Simpleum Safe Encryption every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
