# Avast VPN vs Tachyon VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Tachyon VPN at free with in-app purchases against Avast VPN's subscription. Tachyon VPN also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (53% vs 45%). Avast VPN's advantage is ratings volume (24K vs 2.7K). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Avast VPN sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Tachyon VPN sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Avast VPN against 4.5 for Tachyon VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Avast VPN has 24K ratings behind it against 2.7K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 45% of Avast VPN's written reviews are positive against 53% of Tachyon VPN's.

Avast VPN ships an update every 2 months, Tachyon VPN every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
