# CypherText vs Cypher

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: CypherText at none against Cypher's 3. CypherText also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 16.0). Cypher's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs monthly) and ratings volume (14 vs 1). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cypher sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. CypherText asks for nothing beyond the download.

CypherText holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Cypher has 14 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

CypherText ships an update monthly, Cypher every 3 days. Both last shipped on October 8, 2026.
