# Nextcloud Notes vs ownCloud Online

The clearest difference is rating: ownCloud Online at 5.0 against Nextcloud Notes's 2.2. ownCloud Online also leads on iOS requirement (15.4 vs 17.0). Nextcloud Notes's advantage is review sentiment (27% vs 0%) and ratings volume (93 vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ownCloud Online holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 2.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Nextcloud Notes has 93 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 27% of Nextcloud Notes's written reviews are positive against 0% of ownCloud Online's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
