# Nextcloud Notes vs Paperless Document Scanner

The clearest difference is rating: Paperless Document Scanner at 4.5 against Nextcloud Notes's 2.2. Paperless Document Scanner also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). Nextcloud Notes's advantage is review sentiment (27% vs 0%) and ratings volume (93 vs 6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Paperless Document Scanner holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Nextcloud Notes has 93 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 27% of Nextcloud Notes's written reviews are positive against 0% of Paperless Document Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Nextcloud Notes ships an update every 2 months, Paperless Document Scanner fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
