# Calcularium vs ScanBoy

The clearest difference is ads: ScanBoy at none against Calcularium's shown. ScanBoy also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 67%) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Calcularium's advantage is ratings volume (2.2K vs 4) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Calcularium sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and ScanBoy sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ScanBoy holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Calcularium has 2.2K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Calcularium's written reviews are positive against 100% of ScanBoy's.

Calcularium ships an update fortnightly, ScanBoy every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
