# SpectrumU vs MyCableTV

The clearest difference is ads: MyCableTV at none against SpectrumU's shown. MyCableTV also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.0). SpectrumU's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (318 vs 5). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for SpectrumU against 4.4 for MyCableTV. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SpectrumU has 318 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.

SpectrumU ships an update every 2 weeks, MyCableTV every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
