# Medium vs Digital Gateway

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Digital Gateway at none against Medium's 6. Digital Gateway also leads on iOS requirement (16.4 vs 18.0). Medium's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (157K vs 8). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Medium sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Digital Gateway asks for nothing beyond the download.

Digital Gateway holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Medium has 157K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Medium ships an update weekly, Digital Gateway every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
