# Babbel vs Visual Verbs

Babbel and Visual Verbs both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 95% of Visual Verbs's written reviews are positive against 44% of Babbel's. Visual Verbs also leads on monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). Babbel's advantage is update cadence (every 6 days vs monthly) and ratings volume (757K vs 68). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Babbel sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $17.99 per month and Visual Verbs sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Babbel against 4.7 for Visual Verbs. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Babbel has 757K ratings behind it against 68, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 44% of Babbel's written reviews are positive against 95% of Visual Verbs's.

Babbel ships an update every 6 days, Visual Verbs monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
