# MapToaster NZ Topo Maps vs Terra Map

The clearest difference is rating: Terra Map at 4.6 against MapToaster NZ Topo Maps's 3.5. Terra Map also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (541 vs 2). MapToaster NZ Topo Maps's advantage is review sentiment (91% vs 74%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapToaster NZ Topo Maps sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Terra Map sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Terra Map holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Terra Map has 541 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 91% of MapToaster NZ Topo Maps's written reviews are positive against 74% of Terra Map's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MapToaster NZ Topo Maps ships an update every 6 months, Terra Map every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
