# Stepz vs Step Counter

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Step Counter at none against Stepz's 12. Step Counter also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 77%). Stepz's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Stepz sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Step Counter asks for nothing beyond the download.

Stepz holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Stepz has 33K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 77% of Stepz's written reviews are positive against 100% of Step Counter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Stepz ships an update weekly, Step Counter every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
