# MapChat vs Bored Chat

The clearest difference is rating: MapChat at 5.0 against Bored Chat's 4.1. MapChat also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.0). Bored Chat's advantage is review sentiment (70% vs 33%) and ratings volume (1.8K vs 1). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Bored Chat sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. MapChat asks for nothing beyond the download.

MapChat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Bored Chat has 1.8K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of MapChat's written reviews are positive against 70% of Bored Chat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MapChat ships an update every 3 weeks, Bored Chat every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
