# First Mandarin vs Learn Chinese

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: First Mandarin at none against Learn Chinese's 1. Learn Chinese's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 7 months) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 15.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Learn Chinese sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. First Mandarin asks for nothing beyond the download.

First Mandarin ships an update every 7 months, Learn Chinese fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
