# Pattern Type vs Text Designer

The clearest difference is ads: Pattern Type at none against Text Designer's shown. Pattern Type also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 16.0). Text Designer's advantage is ratings volume (2.4K vs 1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pattern Type sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Text Designer sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Pattern Type holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text Designer has 2.4K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Pattern Type ships an update every 3 months, Text Designer every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 24, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
