# Pattern Type vs Fonts Air

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Fonts Air at 54K against Pattern Type's 1. Fonts Air also leads on update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 3 months). Pattern Type's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pattern Type sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Fonts Air sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Pattern Type holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fonts Air has 54K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Pattern Type ships an update every 3 months, Fonts Air every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
