# Pattern Type vs Font Maker

The clearest difference is rating: Pattern Type at 5.0 against Font Maker's 4.4. Pattern Type also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.0). Font Maker's advantage is ratings volume (8.1K vs 1) and update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pattern Type sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Font Maker sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Pattern Type holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Font Maker has 8.1K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Pattern Type ships an update every 3 months, Font Maker every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 24, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
