# Muscular Development vs Comic Book Scanner

The clearest difference is rating: Comic Book Scanner at 4.8 against Muscular Development's 4.0. Comic Book Scanner also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 3 months). Muscular Development's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (33% vs 17%). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Muscular Development sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per year and Comic Book Scanner sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Comic Book Scanner holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Comic Book Scanner has 328 ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of Muscular Development's written reviews are positive against 17% of Comic Book Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Muscular Development ships an update every 3 months, Comic Book Scanner every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
