# PureReader vs Interchange

The clearest difference is monetization model: PureReader at free with in-app purchases against Interchange's subscription. PureReader also leads on review sentiment (85% vs 73%) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 12.2). Interchange's advantage is update cadence (every 6 days vs every 3 months) and rating (4.3 vs 4.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PureReader sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Interchange sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Interchange holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Interchange has 212 ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 85% of PureReader's written reviews are positive against 73% of Interchange's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

PureReader ships an update every 3 months, Interchange every 6 days. Both last shipped on October 20, 2026.
