# Patatap vs Format 3

The clearest difference is price: Format 3 at Free against Patatap's $1.99. Format 3 also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 66%) and update cadence (every 4 months vs every 36 months). Patatap's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and ratings volume (22 vs 3). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Format 3 is free to download; Patatap costs $1.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Patatap holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Patatap has 22 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 66% of Patatap's written reviews are positive against 100% of Format 3's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Patatap ships an update every 36 months, Format 3 every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
