# Sun Tan City vs GenGold

Sun Tan City and GenGold both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 50% of GenGold's written reviews are positive against 22% of Sun Tan City's. GenGold also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.6). Sun Tan City's advantage is ratings volume (12K vs 29) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Sun Tan City against 4.6 for GenGold. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sun Tan City has 12K ratings behind it against 29, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 22% of Sun Tan City's written reviews are positive against 50% of GenGold's.

Sun Tan City ships an update every 2 weeks, GenGold every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
