# ApplySquare vs ELSA Speak

The clearest difference is rating: ELSA Speak at 4.8 against ApplySquare's 2.5. ELSA Speak also leads on ratings volume (114K vs 8) and update cadence (weekly vs monthly). ApplySquare's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 18) and review sentiment (70% vs 42%). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ELSA Speak sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. ApplySquare asks for nothing beyond the download.

ELSA Speak holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ELSA Speak has 114K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 70% of ApplySquare's written reviews are positive against 42% of ELSA Speak's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ApplySquare ships an update monthly, ELSA Speak weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
