# Sunrise Sunset Times vs Windsock

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Sunrise Sunset Times at 79% against Windsock's 0%. Sunrise Sunset Times also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (monthly vs every 14 months). Windsock's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Sunrise Sunset Times sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Windsock sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Windsock holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sunrise Sunset Times has 19K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of Sunrise Sunset Times's written reviews are positive against 0% of Windsock's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Sunrise Sunset Times ships an update monthly, Windsock every 14 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
