# The Video Converter vs Format Converter

The Video Converter and Format Converter both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Format Converter's written reviews are positive against 28% of The Video Converter's. Format Converter also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.6). The Video Converter's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (10K vs 24). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Video Converter sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Format Converter sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for The Video Converter against 4.6 for Format Converter. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The Video Converter has 10K ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 28% of The Video Converter's written reviews are positive against 100% of Format Converter's.

The Video Converter ships an update every 4 months, Format Converter every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
