# 8bit Painter vs Tipixel

The clearest difference is rating: 8bit Painter at 4.6 against Tipixel's 4.0. 8bit Painter also leads on ratings volume (6.5K vs 1). Tipixel's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 85%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. 8bit Painter sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Tipixel sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

8bit Painter holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: 8bit Painter has 6.5K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 85% of 8bit Painter's written reviews are positive against 100% of Tipixel's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 9, 2026 respectively.
